Bouncy, aquatic guitar tones help lead a refreshing beginning to “Ricœur”, a new track from Tweed & Hyenas, an indie-pop trio from South East London that started out as the solo project of Faroe Islands native singer and guitarist Jón Klæmint Hofgaard. Discovering a mutual admiration for acts like Grizzly Bear, Deerhoof, and Dirty Projectors, the project grew with the addition of drummer Ed Burton and guitarist Ben Madeley. With a style that has been dubbed “lyrical guitar-fueled soul/jazz” by some, there’s no doubting that the end result is a soothing and melodically captivating one, with vocal comparisons to Grizzly Bear’s Ed Droste in addition to wholly original songwriting that proves fluid and ceaselessly engaging.

Another track, “Norðasta Horn” shows a jazzy looseness, with gentle key trickles accompanying a series of illuminated guitar thrusts. This one was selected for the acclaimed NX records mixtape, also receiving plays on BBC 6 Music and drawing praise there and for good reason. These two tracks are extremely impressive, as is the rest of the album, which can be streamed in full below:
