Mozart would have turned 225 years old today. In celebration of the composer’s death, a new Mozart box set titled Mozart 225: The New Complete Edition has been released. What does it include you ask? It includes 200 CD’s (with 30 of them featuring alternate performances,) two hardback books (a biography, plus a piece-by-piece commentary, frameable Mozart prints, and an updated Kochel catalogue, a directory of Mozart’s music. If your wondering how much this thing weighs, it comes in at a whopping 22 pounds, and all for the price of $400. Cliff Eisen, Mozart scholar and professor of music at King’s College in London, who wrote the set’s biography, sat down with NPR to discuss the box set.
