Q-Tip posted a letter to his Instagram account on Thursday night in which he casually announced that a final A Tribe called Quest album, recorded during the final months of Phife’s life, will be released on November 11th. This is amazing news and it makes me feel nervous as shit. This group is, on most days, my favorite Rap group of all time and I kind of just want their unimpeachable catalog to remain as it is, forever.
On the other hand, I’m confident that Q-Tip wouldn’t have even considered moving forward with something like this if the product wasn’t on point. This can’t just be fan service, he must have some shit in the stash. I don’t know if we’ll ever hear anything else from MUTTYmorPHosis, the solo album Phife had plans to drop before he passed, but this new Tribe project means we’re getting one last dose of the Five Foot Assassin in his natural element, rapping alongside Tip as the universe intended it. And that’s special.
